What is it?

The Yacht Race is a series of monthly races that take place monthly from May until August. Each month competitors race using the same 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) course. The objective is for your time to improve over the months. Below is the course map.

The race starts and finishes on the open ground in Conway Rd, just behind the North Solihull sports centre. It is suggested that competitors park in the sports centre car park.
If you don’t want to run we also need volunteers to help marshal the course.

How the race works.

Before the race you need to have submitted your predicted time for the 2 miles. The starting order, handicaps and start times worked out based on the slowest time. Competitors are sent out in the order of their predicted it time so that, like a yacht race, all competitors should finish close to each other. For example, if the slowest competitor has a predicted time of 23 minutes and you have predicted 17 minutes, you will start 6 minutes after them.

All the finishing times are recorded. If you have taken less time than you had predicted, then you will appear higher up the order than if you took more time. Over the months that the races take place your improvement in time will be recorded.

Note: once you have submitted your time for your first entry your actual finish times will be used to base your handicap upon. This means you do not have to submit a predicted finish time for every race, just the first one you enter.
